![]() I consider myself a water snob, filtering chlorine and fluoride from my tapwater for over 10 years and ordering Topo Chico or Pelligrino in a restaurants for just as long. So, I was excited when Texas-based Fulhum asked me to review their product, an alkaline water infused with fulvic and humic minerals. In the midst of drinking lots of water for a cleanse, upon my first sip, I could feel my cells thanking me. This wasn't ordinary bottled water. This was some "next level" mineral water. The water we drink can have a huge impact on our health. Beyond the unfortunate incidents in Flint, Michigan, studies indicate that we need less chemicals and more minerals in our water. Cities like San Marcos, Texas are turning off their chemical tap to medicate the population with fluoride, and water is being recognized as our most precious resource around the world. Away from home, bottled water becomes my first choice because I may not trust the tap, but I learned long ago that all bottled water brands are not created equal, and science can help us decide which is the best.

![]() My friend, Robin D Bruce, has released a new book called 40 Meditations: Stories Inspired by Yoga and Practices for Transformation, available now at Amazon. I can definitely vouch for this book, and I even helped do a little bit of grammar editing. Robin gives us 40 personal stories that arose through her experience with yoga and meditation. Some of them are touching; some of them are embarrassing; and some of them are downright hilarious. Then, each chapter ends with a meditation exercise and a journaling exercise. Robin has been doing this for over a decade, so there's plenty of good stories and great meditations in this book, and it will keep you in a zen state for a long time, that's for sure! Check it out now on Amazon! ![]() (Texas, December 2015) – Guided Meditation Treks, a spoken word meditation sound healing project created by Russell Eric Dobda, has released a new iOS App and mp3 collection entitled “Sleep” to help listeners fall asleep quickly, enjoy a power nap, or induce a lucid dream. The app and album are built on a foundation of several looped nature sounds such as rain, waterfalls, drone noises, birds, and other sonic soundscapes to wash over a cluttered mind and put it into a relaxed state. Binaural beats and isochronic pulses, sound healing technologies scientifically shown to alter brainwave patterns, are mixed atop the nature sounds to induce the brain into the frequencies of sleep. To top it off, the soothing and almost drowsy soft voice of Russell leads you through mindfulness practices that will have you out cold in no time or flying through the air in a vivid lucid dream if you choose. ![]() The idea of sitting in lotus pose even for 20 minutes can feel overwhelming…or boring. Even if you’re interested in achieving flow state, if you’re a typical high-achiever Type A personality, then you might think that sitting cross-legged and breathing deeply is a waste of precious time.If you’re nodding your head in agreement, there are two things you should know. First, if you think you’re too busy to meditate, you probably need meditation more than anyone! Secondly, meditation takes many forms—it isn’t all chanting and hanging out in rock gardens. Check out four ways you can reap the benefits of meditating even if it’s not your thing. Read More... ![]() Thoughts are things. In my latest album, I wrote a meditation inspired by two writers in the field of Theosophy. Here's an article I wrote about this meditation and these concepts on theosophy.net. They outline how our thoughts are not insignificant, and that it is our duty to watch what we think, as well as what we say. But usually, as I close my eyes and focus on my breathing, while I know that I’m supposed to be letting all thoughts go, more and more fly through my mind. Soon I have a laundry-list of “to-dos” in my head … and then my legs fall asleep. It’s all downhill from there. This TED Talk, however, might actually convince me to give meditation another shot. It occurs when the individual is dreaming and during that dream the individual is completely aware that they are dreaming. Some people report a low-level lucidity state where one is aware they are dreaming but not able to alter the content of the dream. Other people have experienced high-level lucidity where one is aware they are dreaming but are also able to alter the dream, and have the freedom to do whatever they desire within the dream. Twice daily, a gong sounds in the classroom and rowdy adolescents, who normally can't sit still for 10 seconds, shut their eyes and try to clear their minds. I've spent lots of time in urban schools and have never seen anything like it. This practice - meditation rebranded - deserves serious attention from parents and policymakers. An impressive array of studies shows that integrating meditation into a school's daily routine can markedly improve the lives of students. If San Francisco schools Superintendent Richard Carranza has his way, Quiet Time could well spread citywide. And we have been told how to practice that way too, so that in turn, we can attain enlightenment. One of the basic ideas is that generally, when we are about in the world, we want a lot of things and we can’t get them. And sometimes we get angry with other people. Then we want to destroy them. Sometimes we have so much desire to get something to hold on to. All those things are called obstacles to meditation. They are the problems that we face. I simply call them the "quiet" and "active" modes of meditation. Quiet meditation commonly refers to traditional seated meditation but includes any meditative form where you're not moving. Active meditation refers to meditating while in motion in the midst of daily life. Whether it’s a demanding job with long hours, living up to the expectations of a spouse or family member, or going to school we can really become frustrated with our situations. Meditation can be a great tool to help bring us back to our underlying essence and help us to feel more at peace with our lives and whatever our current situations may be. You have devised a veil which keeps you from remembering our true history. It keeps you from remembering your true origin of who you are and where you came from. The true power of humanity is so great that it was necessary to create this reality full of limitations and duality. Otherwise, it would not be a game at all. We would all realize our true power and the game would be over. So why do we persist with this illusion? Read More... ![]() What is meditation? You can ask that question and get a million different answers. After 3 years of dabbling with mediation and speaking with many people who have all tried it and played with it at different “levels,” it is clear that there are many ideas of what meditation is and how it “looks” or “feels.” Read More... |
